I am Amy and am currently a high school special education teacher. I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh and have a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and Sociology and a Master's Degree in Education. While at the University of Pittsburgh, I received the Dr. Beverly K. Mitchell Mathematics Education Award. Throughout my educational experience, it was not necessarily the specific material I remembered, but the way in which the material was presented. I was lucky enough to have teachers and professors present topics, especially mathematics, in a fun and engaging approach with real-life examples. I try to use this same approach whether I am teaching in the classroom or tutoring.
I have prior tutoring experience with middle school, high school and college students. I have tutored subjects ranging from Pre-Algebra, Geometry, British Literature and Government. I have taught both special education and general education math classes including Geometry and Algebra 1. In addition to math classes, I have taught Life Skills courses which include employment preparation, study skills techniques and social skills. While working in a learning support classroom, I worked with students who were struggling in their classes to re-teach core concepts and provide assistance completing assignments and projects.
I want to help all students reach their own personal potential and therefore welcome any suggestions, ideas and/or resources. I am easy to reach and respond promptly to messages or questions. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
