Bio

Nice to meet you! I am a senior neuroscience major at Muhlenberg College, and my minors are Italian and Spanish. Once I graduate I intend to work in a research lab for a year or two before beginning grad school for neuroscience. Outside of tutoring and taking my own classes, I work in a molecular neuroscience lab and I have studied abroad for language immersion in Italy. I also play the cello in my college orchestra and the piano on my own time.

This is my third year tutoring college students as a Head Tutor, and I have previous experience with elementary, middle school, and high school students in both group and individual settings. I have also gained experience simply from my neuroscience major classes where studying in groups and teaching one another information to review for the exam became the most successful way more me to study. Finally, I have learned to design lessons on my own through teaching private cello lessons to another student at my college. My former experiences tutoring have generally been with students who were falling behind and requested a tutor through school, so I am excited to have a change of pace on Wyzant's platform with students who are motivated enough to seek help proactively from an outside source.

My favorite part of tutoring is sharing my passion for a subject and helping someone to find that same joy in learning and enjoyment of a class or skill. It is so satisfying to see how a student's grades or performance improve in a class and how they gain a new appreciation for a subject. Even your least favorite class can give you valuable skills to take into the future and help you succeed.

Since elementary school, math was one of the subjects that came the easiest to me. I love the systems behind shapes and numbers and how it is always possible to arrive at a single concrete answer. Algebra is applicable in so many other subjects, especially science, so it is important to have a strong foundation for the fundamentals. Similarly, geometry can easily be related to the real world to make it more understandable before moving on to more advanced applications.

Anatomy is one of my favorite subjects, and after learning two romance languages I have gained a new appreciation for the words as I find connections between all the language that I know. My major has allowed me to gain more in depth experience in anatomy through advanced coursework. Another fascinating aspect of anatomy is that we can apply it to ourselves at all times!

To me, learning foreign languages is so important because it allows us to communicate in new ways and with new people that we otherwise couldn't. It is useful in countless aspects of our lives, for entertainment, travel, learning, etc. and it's important to learn as early as possible. Spanish is a helpful language in the United States of course, and my love for the Italian language grew after learning Spanish and later studying the language in Italy. I have learned these languages since high school and I have continued studying them and tutoring them in college, in addition to practicing them outside of the classroom. I have also served as the president of both the Italian and the Spanish club at Muhlenberg.

These are some of my favorite subjects, as both a teacher and a student. I look forward to working with you!
