My name is Elise and I am the mom of two wonderful children! My daughter is 12 years old and my son is 15 years old. I worked for a public school in Berks County prior to the birth of my son at which time I resigned and became a "stay-at-home" mom. Even though it's been a while since I've been in the classroom, I have always been involved with education in some way. In addition to volunteering at my children's school, I also worked for over 10 years with international students who came to the US to attend school. I would describe myself as patient, caring, and fun. I try to make learning fun for my students and can easily develop great rapport with any child.
Although I live in Berks County, I travel to Allentown 6 days a week to take my daughter to gymnastics (she is a competitive gymnast) so my tutoring area is actually broader than the 40 mile limit that WyzAnt stipulates. My credentials include a BSEd in Early Childhood Education from West Chester University and MEd in Teaching and Curriculum from Penn State University. I also am a certified Reading Specialist.
Teaching Reading and Vocabulary is one of my strong points. I can help your child develop new reading strategies that will help them to "get it". I have experience teaching in the public school system and have two children of my own, so I am familiar with the curriculum.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a certified Reading Specialist. I also spearheaded the development of an emergent literacy reading program when I was teaching. I can provide the name and contact info for my program supervisor at Penn State if necessary.
