Houghton College (English Education)
I am finishing my third year in the secondary English education program at Houghton College. I am a creative and innovative student driven
to create welcoming environments where ever employed. Previously, I have worked at children's camps for the better half of my teenage life; both as a counselor and in the kitchen. During both, I created excellent rapport with other staff and students. I am very committed to
improving the quality of work and I take constructive criticism well.
I have worked with special needs children, including those with learning disabilities, mental challenges and physical
impairments. I have also managed classes of up to 15 students, designed weekly lesson plans focused on age and level-appropriate material, taught English to native Spanish speakers for a month while in Spain (July, 2014), and created differentiated English lessons, targeting high school students (9-12) to create an engaging educational experience.
As stated before, I am finishing my third year of an English education major. I have designed lesson plans, worked with all kinds of students and have taught native Spanish speakers while staying in Spain.
For my whole life I have been an athlete. When I was in middle and high school I played softball and basketball. Upon arriving at college I chose to focus my time on softball only.
I am looking forward to helping students improve their skills throughout the summer. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have or to schedule sessions. Thanks! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I participated in basketball for more than half of my life. From the age of 6 till 18, I was playing basketball on school teams and for recreational teams. Upon graduating high school, however, I was unable to continue to play. But, I still have my knowledge and love of the sport.
Softball has always been a passion of mine. From the age of five till 20 I have played softball every year. I played on recreational leagues and also for my local school. When I was twelve I began receiving pitching lessons and as a result became the best pitcher on my high school team and on the team for which I played recreational ball. Our team went 14-0 for that season. Throughout my entire career I have played every position on the field and love every second of it.
