I am a highschool student in Sherwood looking to help out the local community while earning some money to put towards college. My education and experience go beyond the high school level in the form of advanced placement or AP courses and dual credit courses offered at the high school. I often have friends coming to me asking for help with an english essay, or with critical thinking strategies revolving around a history exam. In time I realized that I have developed skills that I can share beyond my friends that could benefit others in dramatic ways. I myself have been tutored and understand the huge advantages a "one on one lesson" offers over a classroom of thirty students and one worn out teacher. My greatest and fastest advancements in my education came from my tutoring opportunities. Now I want to offer those opportunities to others in my community who need an edge to help push them to not only meeting their goals but exceeding them.
Reading and writing are my core strengths and skills, ones I enjoy using every day as well as teaching. My belief is that the best writers are great readers and vice versa. The reading strategies I teach focus around asking critical questions, visualizing the ideas of the author, analyzing the author's intent, and increasing words read per minute as well as advancing vocabulary. These skills can be applied to all kinds of script, be it poetry, a novel, a scholarly essay, or a business proposal. My writing strategies are very similar revolving around communicating the development of thought, executing conclusions, developing theme and voice, understanding the audience, and understanding and owning the creative writing process.
My listed subjects come from classes that I have excelled in and completed at the college level either through AP exams, dual credit, or CLEP testing. I have taken several business classes and have gone through the process of creating a business plan and model. I have earned PCC credit for Statistics, Archeology, and Computer Access and Excel. History is a subject where I focus on study skills, goal setting, and critical thinking, all students struggling in this regard are capable of improving I promise you.
About me: I am a avid outdoorsman and writer. I plan to join ROTC and become an officer in the Army. My hobbies include hunting, fishing, airsoft, drawing, reading, and writing. I have played football for two years in sherwood and currently run long distance in Track and Field. I have taken part in two plays, one put on by the VPA and one through the High School. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
