About Wendy

I have always enjoyed the subtleties of the English language, and I pride myself in being a successful communicator, writer, and visual artist. I was an art studio major at UC Santa Cruz, and I have experience working with children as a TA in art classes. I am new to the arena of tutoring. Despite this, I am confident in my ability to patiently teach today's youth the basics of reading and writing, as well as working with future artists who wish to learn more about the craft. I am excited about being involved with the younger generation, to assist them in developing their academic and artistic skills. These youngsters will be responsible for making this world a better place, by contributing their particular talents, insights, and knowledge to society at large.

I hope to make a difference myself, however small, by helping children to learn, and to gain confidence in their own unique abilities. I would like to pass on some of the tools that I've developed, which have enabled me to live a more fulfilling and interesting life.

I have written poetry, done memoir writing, and published articles on the web and in the local newspaper. While in high school, I scored in the 99th percentile on the English portion of the SAT's. I have been fortunate to possess strong language skills from a young age, and to have enjoyed my English and Language courses, almost as the many classes that I have taken in the visual arts.

I want to help you to enjoy learning, to make it appealing to you, rather than unpleasant and frustrating. I wish to encourage you, and help you to feel good about yourselves. I want to help you to find meaning in whatever subject I am tutoring you in. I look forward to meeting you, and to aiding in your growth as students, and as human beings!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drawing

I have created drawings since I was a child. Art studio has always been an area that I've excelled in. I was an art studio major at UC Santa Cruz, and I have shown my work at several galleries.

Reading

I passed all of the necessary testing on WyzAnt, that is necessary to teach writing, reading and grammar to my students. If you have any questions about my background, please feel free to ask.

Writing

I have a great deal of experience both reading and writing. I am extremely strong in language in general. I passed all of the required testing on WyzAnt for English writing and English grammar.
