Northwest Christian University (Psychology)
I have always loved to see people succeed. As a Magma Cum Laude graduate with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, I learned how important it is to learn something new every day. I first tutored someone when I was in my early 20’s. I believe in working hard to succeed. Also, when I put more effort into succeeding at learning new things, I appreciate and value them that much more. I have always believed in the power of knowledge and this means being open to learning new things all the time.
I am somewhat adaptable with how I teach someone to best help them. But, rest assured, we will work hard as long as necessary for you to learn what you need. I have ADHD and sometimes can talk very fast. I would appreciate it if you would just remind me to slow down. This is my biggest ongoing struggle when working with others.
I worked as a counselor for five years. This means I had individual appointments as well as facilitated groups which gives me a lot of experience with different people’s learning styles. Since my degree is in psychology, I have learned so much about how to work with people and the different learning styles. I also trained all the new interns who came into our office. I was specifically assigned to teach them by one of my college teachers and co-worker.
I am patient with the people I am teaching and love to see them “get” something and apply it themselves. I can think of no greater gift I can offer others than to help them learn what they need to be successful. My specialty areas are science, reading, vocabulary and lower math (no college levels), helping study for tests is another thing I can do.
I am constantly working to improve my teaching and people skills so will ask for feedback periodically and will listen to it if or when it is volunteered. I am easy to get along with and like to have fun; however, I get things accomplished. I am willing to travel to your house if it is within a reasonable distance or we can arrange to meet somewhere. I have been to tutoring sessions in restaurants or parks, whatever we decide will work best. I am looking forward to meeting you so we can begin to build on your success. I have complete confidence that you can and will be a success in you endeavors. The sooner you call the sooner we can begin your future.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
