I know how daunting the English language can be, especially in composing material that expresses exactly what you are trying to convey. Not to mention the complications posed by proper grammar and punctuation which can sometimes seem to be an impenetrable mystery. But by mastering these disciplines, you will receive many benefits in your ability to communicate. First, your chances of obtaining satisfactory employment will be enhanced. Secondly, your confidence will increase immensely.
I have a BA in English from the University of Illinois in Chicago, but more importantly, I have had a lifelong love affair with the English language. I love learning new words and using them to build my vocabulary. This has been very useful in my long writing career which has included catalog copy-writing, advertising agency copy-writing, newsletter writing, and freelance writing.
I am a long-standing member of Toastmasters International, a world-wide public speaking organization. In business, I have spoken before large crowds calmly and confidently. I have also received awards competing in Toastmasters contests.
I also have a love of numbers, especially in algebra and geometry. In algebra, it is always exciting to take given information and find the "unknown." In geometry, I love working with shapes and objects and determining their mathematical properties. At a more basic level, I am very adept at working with fractions, decimals, percentages, etc.
I have worked as the new-math copywriter for Scott, Foresman Publishing Co.
I have tutored people from all walks of life, all ages, varying degrees of education, and the results have always been gratifying for both parties.
My tutoring approach is a "hands on" one rather than resorting to abstract formulas. I like making subjects "come alive." Learning should be fun!
So, let's forge ahead together! Please know that I am a very patient, conscientious person and will work with you consistently and intensely to achieve the goals you wish to achieve.
It would be a privilege to work with you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
