After 17 years of classroom teaching, tutoring is a great way to share what I've learned. Primary and intermediate students are wonderful to work with because their growth is broad at this age. I have many games, manipulatives, and resources to help students learn and want my students to enjoy the experience of learning because it increases the amount that is learned and how long it is retained. I do not believe that there is one "right" way to teach a subject or to create that wonderful "ah-ha" moment.
During my many years of teaching, I attended many workshops to give me the latest approaches to teaching math, reading, and writing. Some of these included, Marcy Cook math, Rebecca Sitton Spelling, and John Sheflebine Phonics Reading. Each of these individuals is a leader in their field. Over the years, I have even developed my own phonics curriculum.
I was always selected to be one of my district's pilot teachers where I tested the latest approaches to teaching. I was a BTSA (Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment) provider for many years. This meant I was constantly working with and mentoring new teachers. This also exposed me to the latest thinking about the art of teaching. I was also the GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) coordinator for our school for ten years. I tested students and learned much about differentiated instruction, molding instruction to fit the learning style of the student.
I have many written observations of my teaching praising my techniques and interactions with students. I have letters of recommendations from the principals for whom I worked and many letters and notes from parents.
I believe all students can learn, that we are all on a continuum of what I call our "learning journey" and that if a teacher meets a student where they are on that journey, he/she can be successfully moved along.

Knowledge and Expertise with results!
My son was in 1st grade. He was promoted from kindergarten with a basic knowledge of recognizing his letters. He did not know his phonics much less know how to read. His 1st grade teacher said there was no way he would get to grade level before 2nd grade. He is now going into 2nd grade reading...slowly but reading! His teacher was amazed at his progress. He would not have been able to accomplish this with just home help. Belinda has been so patient and encouraging to my son. Her teaching methods are individualized specifically to his learning style. She has years of experience and I am privileged to have her tutor my son.Glenda, 31 lessons with Belinda

Tutoring has been Great
Belinda has helped me figure out a lot more of what my son needs help with and how to help him. It is so hard as his mom to know because they don't bring home books from school to study from, hardly any pages to show how they are doing and he behaves and focuses a lot better with her then with either parent.Julie, 117 lessons with Belinda
Patient, warm and wise tutor!
Belinda won over my reluctant, introverted elementary-aged daughter by their second session together! We are so happy for Belinda's experience, insight, and fantastic collection of math games and teaching tools. Belinda does a great job of assessing what my daughter needs to work on, she has many strategies for getting lessons across, and she knows kids.Joanna, 89 lessons with Belinda
