I am a college student currently majoring in Anthropology with a focus in Archaeology and minoring in African Studies at the University of Oregon. I have worked with elementary school-age children as well as high school-age teenagers; I also have experience in working with special needs children. I love being a tutor, because, to me it is fulfilling to see students who once struggled in school suddenly flourish in school, all because they had someone give them a little bit of extra guidance. I was once a student who struggled in school and overcame my struggles, so I feel as though this is my chance as a tutor to give back and help students who are in the same place that I was.
In order to ensure that their students succeed, tutors as well as teachers need to have strong patience and strong communication skills. They also need to realize that not all students comprehend things in the same way. I will use my skills to the best of my ability to ensure that the students that I tutor succeed in their courses. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
