About Cora

I believe every student has the potential and the capacity to be a great student with a little patience, optimism and diligence.

That's where I come in!

I have always been passionate about individualized education and student success, and my tutoring/teaching experience reflects this commitment.

My experiences and skill sets:

I am currently majoring in English at Willamette University. I have a 4.0 GPA and I am a member of two National Honors Societies, Alpha Lambda Delta and Order of Omega.

I currently work as an Adult Education Assistant with the Salem-Keizer Family Literacy Program which helps teen parents successfully attain their GED. I also work as a Willamette University Writing Consultant. This past summer I worked as a teaching fellow for the Breakthrough Collaborative in San Francisco. I taught two sections of 8th grade history, Exploratory Arts and 8th Grade High School Options.

My tutoring methods:

In my tutoring practices, I employ Stanford Psychology Professor Carol Dweck's "growth mindset model" which praises students' for their effort, tenacity and progress rather than their perceived intellect. This educational ideology has been proven to reap great rewards. For instance, students with a growth mindset welcome educational challenges and this passion to continually push their intellect is reflected in their grades.

I also believe in a gradual release of responsibility. This means that my lesson plans are tailored to guide your student to independence resulting in personal confidence and comprehension of the material.

I recognize that parents and guardians want the best for their children, so I offer a free consultation. I am flexible with my time but there is a 24 hour cancellation policy. However, I am happy to offer makeup tutoring sessions.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you gain confidence in your studies!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
