In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

As a professional and business owner for over 2 decades, I know education is of vital importance to Career Development. I have worked with many students of all grade levels to help identify strengths and build on skills needing improvement. With improved skills and understanding, student set their goals for a positive successful future career.

Cooking

As a parent, and with my past experience working in a deli and cooking for fundraising, I have followed great recipes and enjoy sharing my cooking skills. I have used these skills to assist students in Family and Consumer Skills classes. Life skills such as cooking provide great hands on learning for Second Language Learning!

Desktop Publishing

As a professional and a student working in different venues, I have advanced my Desktop Publishing skills creating effective signs, business cards, flyers and many other marketing materials for fundraising, local schools and private organizations.

Drawing

Working with many artists, I have a diverse Art background. Within my career, my education and my work in the Theatre, I enjoy sharing my Art Skills. Drawing is fun and helps many of my students including second Language learners more clearly understand their new vocabulary and concepts. Many teachers, parents and students often request my advice and assistance in any art related projects. I have assisted in mainstream classroom and after school art programs.

Elementary (K-6th)

I enjoy teaching and making learning fun and meaningful. I have over 18 years of experience working with students of all ages and grade levels in English, Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, Science, Computer Literacy, Library and Media, Spanish and ESL, as well as providing Special Education assistance in the Learning Resource Center and the mainstream classroom.

As a District English as a Second Language Coordinator for over 6 years, I have over 18 years assisting ESL students of all ages and grade levels.

Painting

In my years Working in the Theatre, I have painted many backdrops and scenes and created realistic artistic props. In the classroom and in after-school programs, I have worked with students of all ages in art classes. I have won awards for my Art and have used my painting skills for marketing and sales. I enjoy teaching painting preferring mainly watercolor and acrylic media.

Sewing

As a parent, and with my experience working in a theatre costume shop, I have acquired sewing skills from simple hems to making costumes and huge scenery backdrops. I have used these skills to assist students in Family and Consumer Skills classes. Life skills such as sewing provide wonderful hands on learning for Second Language Learning.

Spanish

I have been teaching and tutoring Spanish to large and small groups of all ages for over 20 years. I have traveled to Mexico, Madrid and Spain. I have truly enjoyed experiencing the Spanish and Latin American language and culture through my travels and here in the United States. Spanish is a great language to learn, and with my effective teaching techniques supplemented with realia, hands on activities, music and games, learning Spanish is fun!

Spelling

Can you picture the spelling words in your mind? Do you hear the word and remember it? Do you prefer to work with the word in a game or song? Whether you consider yourself to be a Visual (seeing), Auditory (hearing) or Kinesthetic (hands on) Learner or a combination of all three learning styles, or even if you are faced with dyslexia, you can improve your spelling study skills! Practice is essential, but we can work with you to learn clever memory tricks, games, and other helpful spelling strategies. I can help you to acquire the needed support to succeed in your spelling!

Study Skills

I have worked in the Life Skills Program in the mainstream classroom and in the Learning Resource Center with K-12 students and I have assisted College level students to improve study skills and test taking skills. I can provide creative resources to assist students of all levels and build life long confidence in study skills and test taking skills.

Theatre

With many years working in a professional Theatre backstage and onstage, I can provide assistance in Acting, Voice, Stage Management, Costume Design, Lighting, Sound, Set Design, Drafting, Scenery Construction, Directing, and Play writing. I have traveled to Europe with a University Theatre Program Ensemble. I have worked at many schools and universities assisting students in all aspects of Theatre. I have worked with many ESL and Spanish Learning students who enjoy being in Theatre Productions to help with positive language skill development.
