I have raised four wonderful children and continue to learn about how to support children's needs in becoming successful. I teach the whole child and assist him or her to identify their unique learning style for success. I discovered that my learning style is a kinetic visual learner. I need to have a pencil to write down what someone tells me or see a picture to represent what they are saying. I feel strongly that each student must understand their style before diving into any subject for learning. I also believe that the student must find a connection and purpose for learning the subject. Once these two are in place, then the learning begins.
I have had extensive training in 'doing math the new may' according to the best practices in math. I believe that the Common Core Standards are useful in identifying where a child is in the spectrum of learning and helps to identify any missing holes in a child's education. How your child comes to know the required matter will depend on your child's learning style. I like to match my teaching style to the needs of the student. I also enjoy finding outside sources to assist in learning such as video clips on You Tube that are fun and engaging, when available

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a current license in the state of Oregon as a Pharmacist. I earn 15 credit hours every year to maintain my license.
