Bio

I have been living abroad for the past 6 years (Ethiopia, Finland, and India to be exact). In Ethiopia I consistently helped my peers and younger students complete their homework, improving their understandings of methods as I did. In Finland I worked with middle schoolers after school, supporting them in learning arts and crafts techniques. I also wrote a lesson plan and taught a 6th grade math class on aspects of "mathsthetics". In India I taught local students twice a week, writing lesson plans and preparing activities to support their curriculum on one day and extend it the other. I mostly taught math, science, theatre, and art. I also trained high school students to partake in the Canadian Math Competition and taught middle school students elements of public speaking. Through this unique experience I have not only learned to teach but to teach children despite extreme language barriers. I am very patient, understanding, and above all compassionate to anyone I teach and I look forward to getting to know my students and helping them reach their full potential!

As a math major I offer what many cannot: an undying love for mathematics. My enthusiasm for the subject, I have been told, is contagious. Additionally, because I seek it out in my personal time I have many diverse and lesser-known examples and perspectives on the subject. This diversity, I believe, is the key to being a good teacher and tutor. Not only have I discovered a diverse set of methods specifically for mathematics, but I have also seen a myriad of teaching styles and philosophies. Living in so many places I have been a part of many school systems (US, MYP, IB, AP) and can pick and choose philosophies from each that work best for each student.
