Reed College (Physics)
Hi! My name is Alex, I have a BA in Physics from Reed College, and I am active in astrophysics research. I've been a science and math tutor and teacher for the last 5 years, teaching both with schools and private students. I've taught a wide range of subjects, from physics and astronomy lessons in 6th grade science classes, to college-level calculus.
I'm passionate about math and physics, and I take great pleasure in being able to make these topics more accessible. My goals as a tutor are to simultaneously help the student achieve what they need to while demystifying fields of study often considered impenetrable.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have many years of experience in astronomy research, including working on research projects at the Cerro-Tololo Interamerican Observatory in Chile, at the University of Utah, and at Oregon State University.
