About Edward

I am a 2011 nominee for the Pushcart Prize in Literature, also nominated for the 2009 Rhysling Award and the 2005 British Science Fiction Association Award. My short stories have appeared in over 120 worldwide markets, including Ellen Datlow's Best Horror of the Year 2, Interzone magazine and the Magazine of Bizarro Fiction. I am a graduate of Temple University, and presently seek to broaden my horizons in teaching after a disability cut Graduate School short. In my spare time, I enjoy reading Fiction as well as writing it.

I have been a proofreader for other folks and myself, since 1996; moderated two incarnations of a writing workshop, hosted a spoken word 'happening' in Portland, tutored a dyslexic nine-year-old into a raging Stephenie Meyer fan (I still don't know how I feel about that) and mentored with new and seasoned writers alike since 2002.

if English is a dull wax museum to you, full of complicated rules and boring fat paperbacks and incomprehensibility, contact me. I can teach you to love the written word, and learn the rules for honing it to your purpose.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Reading

Tutored one Dyslexic fifth-grader from Dr. Seuss to Stephenie Meyer. General enthusiasm for writing and reading that is passed along almost instantly. Eidetic recall of concordance materials within each work such as names and dates.
