About Conor

Hello, my name is Conor and I'm an undergraduate student at Regis University in Denver, CO. I'm expected to graduate in December 2016 and am majoring in biology. Before Regis I went to Jesuit High School in Portland, OR. I have experience in a wide range of science and mathematic courses. If you can think of a science class I have probably taken it. My main focus is molecular and cellular biology with a primary focus on cancer and the different mechanisms cancers use to become malignancies. I have taken courses on basic biology and chemistry, genetics, anatomy and physiology, cancer, microbiology, nutrition, organic chemistry, pre-calculus, psychology and physics. If any of these subjects sound interesting or you need help in the subject I am more than willing to help however I can.

For a little background on myself, I grew up in Portland, OR and loved it and now I travel between Oregon and Colorado for school. I have experience teaching through volunteering at a non-profit organization in Denver, helping refugees resettle in the Denver community, learning English and American culture. Furthermore, I have helped at Skinner Middle School near Regis through their afterschool programming and outreach to families. As well as in the hospital setting, volunteering at Children's Hospital by visiting patients of varying illnesses helping them during their stay however I could. In the future I'm planning on pursuing a degree in medicine and work as a pediatrician. I am a very down to Earth guy and love to teach so that my students can feel confident in the material.

I have taken several classes in Pre-Calculus, Geometry and Trig, as well as physics which required a lot of math skills.

I have taken four years of science courses at Regis University and am in two honor societies currently, the Regis University Biology Research Honor Society and the National Jesuit Honor Society.

I am always willing to meet with students and help them better understand their material. I have had some really hard classes and having friends and professors who were willing to help me understand the material was a great asset and I would really enjoy being that resource for you in your educational path. Don't worry I don't yell, bite or undermine your smarts, deep down I think everyone can achieve what they want if they put forth the effort.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biology

I am a biology major at Regis University in Denver, CO and have taken courses ranging from introductory biology to anatomy and physiology and molecular and cellular biology, genetics and microbiology. I'm also a member of Tri Beta honor society for biology research.

Chemistry

For chemistry I have completed a full year of introductory chemistry and a full year of organic chemistry. I have also passed the American Chemical Society's standardized organic chemistry exam in April 2015.

Genetics

I have taken an upper-division genetics course at Regis University and received an A- in the course, as well as the required additional lab. The course went through the basics of the central dogma. As the semester progressed we went through differing genetic factors, the proteins involved and how certain inhibitors can affect translation or transcription. Finally, we went through different genetic disorders and how their background, treatment, and current research being done.

Organic Chemistry

I took a full year of Organic Chemistry at Regis University and received a B in the first semester and then a B+ the second semester. At the end of the semester we took the American Chemical Society's organic chemistry standardized test. The course entailed basic understanding of organic chemistry, like bond formations, spectroscopy, synthesis using solvents.
