I am an experienced tutor with advanced degree and coursework in science and health. My background includes medical school, a Master's of Public Health from Portland State University and a Bachelor's degree in Molecular and Cell Biology and a Business Administration Minor from UC Berkeley. I also have been admitted to the US federal patent bar and have been accepted to law school.
I can tutor a variety of subjects including English Literature and Writing (including ESL), Math (Geometry, Algebra, Statistics, etc.), Life Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, etc.), History and Geography, Business / Economics and Foreign Languages (beginning to intermediate French and Spanish, others). In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have several years tutoring experience in tutoring students of elementary school level and beyond. This includes almost all subjects taught in elementary school including math, science, English literature and writing, art, etc. I received high score (A's) in elementary school and middle school.
I am a native speaker of Farsi. I can read, write and speak Farsi (Persian) with years of practice at home and travel experience in visiting Iran. I have also taken a Farsi for native speakers course at UC Berkeley which I received an 'A' in.
I have experience studying genetics in high school, undergradute education and medical school. I have also tutored high school genetics including vocabulary, Punnett squares, pedigrees and various types of inheretance including sex-linked, blood groups, autosomal, incomplete penetrance and co-dominance.
I have had medical school coursework including in-depth study of pharmacology. This included classes of drugs, the diseases they treat and their mechanism of action. Other topics included drug-drug interactions and side effects.
Having completed a variety of challenging academic degrees and programs such as medical school and undergraduate/graduate coursework, I have learned important study skills. These include managing time and information. Some of the study skills that I practice in my tutoring including diagramming, organizing information by topic and an approach including designating time to various chapters or subjects that will allow the student to cover more material to maximize their scores on exams.
