Growing up in the San Francisco/Bay Area, I've always been interested in different cultures and languages. I was raised bilingual, speaking English and Farsi. My children are bilingual as well, speaking English and German.
As a sophomore in high school, I went to Japan for the summer as an exchange student through the Rotary Club. It was an amazing experience learning Japanese while living with a host family.
I received my MA TESOL from San Francisco State, where I taught at the American Language Institute(ALI) and worked with people from all over the world. I also taught classes in Reading/Vocabulary, Pronunciation, and Writing/Grammar at several colleges in the Bay Area. I have also helped students prepare for the TOEFL.
A few years ago, I went back to school and received my MAT (Masters in Education) at Portland State. I enjoy teaching students of all ages and different backgrounds. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
