Texas State University (German)
Portland State University (Enrolled)
Hello everyone. My name is Jonathan and I am currently looking to help tutor anyone wanting to learn German or English. I am a current MA TESOL student in Portland, OR; and I have a BA in German from Texas State University (2010).
To elaborate on my German language knowledge, I was an Instructor's Assistant at TSU and also taught German Lab classes during my senior year and, on the side, I tutored college students who were taking beginner German level courses. Overall, I have accumulated approximately 100 hours of German tutoring/IA experience and would love to share my knowledge with those who want to either learn German for fun, as a hobby, a required language course, or even if you're about to visit a German-speaking country. Additionally, I lived in Germany for half a year after I graduated in 2010 and was able to expand my German language skills a little more.
As for my ESL/EFL experience, as previously mentioned, I am currently a graduate student working on my MA TESOL degree. I'm up to date on current language acquisition theories and currently taking a graduate level English grammar course. I have not yet tutored anyone in English yet but I most certainly look forward to begin my ESL/EFL teaching experience with an eager learner.
Importantly, I do not charge for the first 30 minutes of the first session because I believe that is a critical time period for me to analyze your level of German/English so that I can better assist you and customize a teaching pattern that fits you.
As of today, 1/31/16, I have not officially taken on any ESL/EFL students but I am currently working on my MA TESOL degree. My classes currently consist of up-to-date language acquisition theories and grammar. English is my first language and I believe I can help any learner who is eager to learn English, whether it be descriptive, prescriptive or both.
I hold a BA in German from Texas State University (2010) and lived in Germany for half a year. I tutored college level students taking beginner German classes during my senior year at TSU, as well as taught a few German Lab classes for said year.
Should you want to learn beginner/intermediate German or English then please feel free to contact me and ask me questions! I would love to hear from you all and see where we can begin with the tutoring process. I am available for tutoring 2-3 days out of the week, unless otherwise discussed. Additionally, I have a personal vehicle that allows me to travel and meet you somewhere convenient.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
