I have a bachelor's degree in Spanish and International Relations, in which I did an area study of Latin America and the Caribbean. This was an all encompassing study of culture, economics and history which was the foundation for my continued interest and knowledge in the area which has grown ever since. I have collegiate level Spanish language and literature tutoring experience, am fluent in reading and writing and proficient conversationally. In addition to 12 years of Spanish instruction, I am proficient in beginner level written and spoken Portuguese.
After college I was a tutor for a Hispanic non profit organization and ran an after school program for bilingual middle school kids, acting both as an ESL tutor and go between for parents and teachers. I then was a Spanish interpreter at a law firm for 4 years, which involved conversing with Spanish speakers from all over Central America and Mexico.
I enjoy every aspect of the Spanish language and love to share it with others who are interested in learning. In addition to the technical aspects, which are generally the focus of classroom instruction, I am open to sharing my knowledge of linguistic history and culture surrounding the language.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My qualifications include a Bachelor's in Spanish and International Relations, with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean. I have experience tutoring both Spanish speakers learning English and English speakers learning Spanish. I also did interpretation work for a law firm, conversing with people from Central America and Mexico. My interest in the area has continued ever since and my knowledge has expanded from personal experiences.
