I'm a huge fan of the writing process and an even bigger fan of working with students one-on-one. I'm highly empathetic and I live for sitting down with a student, learning about their writing project (whatever it may be), and helping them formulate their ideas into cohesive written expression, step-by-step.
I worked as a Writing Center Consultant at my alma mater, where I assisted students with any and all kinds of writing assignments. I especially love brainstorming and editing for grammar and syntax, turning that convoluted sentence into one that's succinct and engaging. I also completely understand a lack of enthusiasm about a written assignment; I endeavor to relieve students' stress by coming alongside them in their work, hopefully boosting their self-confidence and eradicating any fear or feeling of burden (or contempt for their teacher or for the assignment itself). I am familiar with most academic writing formats (MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.), and if I happen to be unfamiliar or a bit rusty with the format a student is working with, I'll study up and make sure I have a good grasp of it before our tutoring session.
In my free time, I enjoy creative writing, filmmaking, reading and film-watching. I see film and literature as very similar, and I enjoy comparing the two and synthesizing my life experiences with characters both on-screen and on the page. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a minor in Philosophy, so my students can trust I'm well-read and full of random biographical and epochal bits of trivia and information (and opinions, too, but I'm generally pretty soft-spoken).
Overall, I love film, literature, the writing process, and most of all, people. I will cherish getting to meet you and getting to work with you on your written assignment(s).

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
