Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have completed Math courses from Math 70, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus 1-4, Differential Equations and Statistics 1 & 2. This was required of my engineering program.

Algebra 2

I have completed Algebra 2 as part of my Renewable Energy Engineering degree from Oregon Institute of Technology. The class was actually taken at Portland Community College.

Chemistry

I have studied a full year of Chemistry in high school and Chemistry 1, 2 & 3 at Portland State University. At Oregon Institute of Technology, I studied Electrochemistry and Fuel Cells (a subset of Chemistry). These classes required a lab section as well. Tutoring will be based on solving problems and the concepts needed to solve problems.

Elementary Math

I have tutored my daughter in Elementary Math and Algebra 1 & 2. Elementary Math is part of any engineering problem that I encountered from my classes in Chemistry, Physics, Circuits, Electronics and the higher level engineering classes and electives. Engineers are problem solvers and those problems always have a basic math problem contained within them.

Elementary Science

In my studies I have taken a variety of science classes with their respective labs including Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry 1-3, Physics 1-3, Electrochemistry, Fuel Cells and Psychology 1-2. These classes trained me to think in the scientific method and gave me a broad background the the basic sciences. My Renewable Energy Engineering classes were based in the sciences to a large degree. I also keep current with the sciences by reading periodicals such as New Scientist and Scientific American.

Geometry

I studied Geometry in high school and utilized it in engineering classes in college.

Prealgebra

I completed Prealgebra as a prerequisite for Algebra 1 in order to go on to Algebra 2, Trigonometry and Precalculus as part of my Renewable Energy Engineering degree. I helped my daughter in math as she completed her high school math classes. Prealgebra is used throughout an engineering program such as mine in math classes as well as science and engineering classes and labs.

Precalculus

I have studied math classes from Math 70 to Calculus and Differential Equations.
