I am a college writing instructor with 5 years of teaching experience. I taught Freshman Composition for two years at the University of Idaho, and I taught English to international students at Washington State University and the University of Oregon. In addition, I served in Americorps as a GED instructor at an alternative high school, and I taught basic English skills to immigrants and migrant farm workers at the College of Southern Idaho. In each of these roles, I spent significant amounts of time instructing students in writing, grammar, composing research papers, enhancing reading and critical thinking skills, and gaining general confidence in their writing ability and reading comprehension. I am very comfortable and experienced working with students from all walks of life. In fact, I enjoy it very much! I believe my skills shine the brightest when I work with students one-on-one, and over the years, I have helped more than 300 students improve their writing ability.
I have seen many students experience tremendous anxiety and doubt when it comes to writing papers; however, with appropriate and effective help and motivation, these paralyzing feelings can be overcome. I have proven methods to help instill the lifelong skills students need in order to express themselves and their ideas in the written word. I am happy to work with students of all ages and skill levels. I enjoy seeing students improve their writing ability, and most importantly, their confidence. I look forward to working to with you! She is organized, on time, patient, and extremely helpful. We wouldn't get through this school year without her. My HS child would request that she help when he has a long assignment.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
