Bachelor's of Science (Biochemistry)
Two years graduate research in molecular biology (Graduate Coursework)
Hello, my name is Jamie. I have high school and college experience teaching Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. I have a degree in Biochemistry with an emphasis in Molecular Biology & Microbiology. I am AP certified in Chemistry and have taught Chemistry, Chemistry Lab & Recitation, Biochemistry Lab & Recitation, Molecular Immersion Workshop and Physics 101 at the college level. I currently teach at a private high school here in Portland. I find tutoring to be the most rewarding component of teaching because if allows you to opportunity to understand the specific needs of the student and meet them where they are in their learning. I have a talent for explaining things in a variety of ways to get the idea translated to my students. I am an accomplished student, researcher and teacher. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others to help them achieve their learning goals. Because I am a full-time teacher, my availability is predominantly limited to evenings and weekends. Helped our son review recent tests to determine where the stumbling blocks were and then focused on addressing the issues. She gave him confidence that he could do the work.
Jamie is great. She is an awesome tutor! Very informative and patient. She knows her topics. I would recommend her to any student that wants to learn biochem. She is very thorough and understanding. She knows her topics . You ROCK JAMIE!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I have extensive research in protein structure-function studies, and have taught Biochemistry labs and Recitations when I was a graduate teaching assistant.
I have a degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. I took high level Biology courses and labs in order to graduate from this degree. GPA 3.82. During I also worked in research including protein structure-function studies (PCR amplification, gene insertion, HIS-tagging, bacterial growth mediums, cell lysis collection, purification via LPLC, and NMR analyses), gene-splicing, and expression for fluorescence microscopy, applications of DNA expression in rice, fruit flies, and yeast. I also use biological applications to further engage my high school classroom students in their core chemistry skills. For example, when we study pH, we look at the solubility of over-the-counter medicines at various pH to see what processes it goes through during ingestion, digestion and elimination.
I am a HS Chemistry and Physics Teacher with a degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. Certifications held in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics as a "Highly Qualified" HS teacher. Idaho Licensure. Oregon licensure pending.
I currently teach full-time at a private high school in Portland.
15 years applied research experience. 15 years teaching experience (college lab instructor - TA, dual-credit adjunct instructor while teaching HS, high school instructor and graduate immersion instructor -TA).
I have been trained in basic Mendelian Genetics in Biology 201, I earned an A in Genetic Engineering Lab and courses, I have applied genetics to the splicing in of recombinant DNA into a gene of interest into a bacterial host, harvested the resultant protein from that DNA's expression and mRNA and ultimate polypeptide, and studied the protein (product of the gene) in vitro and in vivo.
I have successfully completed both Organic Chemistry Series I and II courses and labs. I earned As in all but the O-Chem II, in which I earned a B. Both courses were assessed using the ACS annual exam proctored by my university. I have laboratory experience in organic solvents and related chromatography. I have used both distillation and fractionation to separate and analyze organic substances. I have extensive experience in organic nomenclature via my publication and editing of MSDS for a chemical company.
