Before going to college for graphic design I was a freelance photographer for 6 years. In doing this, I found the need to know Photoshop inside and out. From there I branched into making keepsake DVDs, which meant I needed to learn Encore and Premiere. After this, I went to college and learned the rest of the Adobe Suite. Now as a web designer I work in Muse most of the time.
While in college I tutored a few of my classmates on various Adobe and web based projects and I discovered that I am very good at meeting the student on their level. We all have a different learning curve, style, and no two people understand the same thing the same way.
My teaching style is the same as my learning style. I believe that you have to have the learning meet the need not the other way around. When there is an application or a reason to learn something it makes more sense and commits to memory better than just reading a book and trying to memorize every possibility. Know the reason you do something is as important as know what to do.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
