About Micah

Hello! Through my two years of teaching English to students of every level in France, I have the experience and credentials necessary to effectively communicate the necessary concepts of the English language to foreign learners of all different backgrounds. While in France I taught university students as a TA for the "University of Lorraine" in the city of Nancy, France. I also taught beginning adult learners for a non-profit organization known as "Famille et Loisirs". Lastly, I gained experience giving private lessons to beginning-intermediary level children aged 6-9 in the city of Nancy as well. I taught not only French students, but students from Morrocco, Algeria, Azerbaidjan, China, and Mexico just to name a few.

I am a strong believer in as much of an immersive approach to the English language as possible. I like to stress memorization through the association of words and images similar to the approach taken by "Rosetta Stone". I also stress memorization of grammar concepts through the repetition of sentences. These things I believe have the power to fully let vocab and grammar sink in once a detailed explanation of the rules has been given. For, rules are always nothing but abstractions until they are put into context. However, I am aware of the need for older learners to have more explanation in regards to grammar concepts they may find perplexing. I am very much familiar with this through my experience in teaching older adults in the city of Pompey, France for "Famille et Loisirs" and am fully prepared to adress this need.

Whatever your needs be in English, be they working on an essay paper, trying to communicate better with natives, improving your reading skills, or just general knnowledge, I have the methodological adaptability to serve you. Please let me know if I could have the pleasure of doing so!

In regards to French, I was not only a teacher of English there in the city of Nancy but also a student as well in Montpellier. While there all of my classes were in French with French students, and most of my friends were as well. Therefore, I have three years under my belt living in France as a student and as a working adult associating mainly with French people and foreigners who speak French. In addition to this, I also received my bachelor's degree from Ball State in French with a GPA of 3.8 My hard work and practical experience in the language has given me complete fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening and the ability to assist you with whatever needs/preferences you may have.

Be it practical French for getting around on a vacation, learning how to read news articles, trying to understand conversations between French people, or learning how to express yourself, I can definitely set you in the right direction to satisfactorily meet your goals. Please let me know if I can have the opportunity of engaging in an educational interaction with you for your French language prospects. Look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I spent 2 years in France as a TA teaching English to University students. I have also worked with adults, and tutored 3 children. Have experience preparing University students for the TOEIC/TOEFL exams, teaching the reading and writing of practical English, oral expression and comprehension, and more.

I graduated Cum Laude with a degree in French from Ball State University. I spent one year in France as an exchange student and two years as an English teacher. I received the "Burkhardt Award" my senior year for outstanding academic performance in French.

Study Skills

Having graduated Cum Laude with a double major from Ball State and also having been a member of the "Collegiate Honors Society", my past accomplishments more than speak to my ability to study properly. I was also awarded the "Burkhardt Award" for outstanding academic performance in the French Department. My ability to assist with study skills includes how to improve one's note-taking, reading, and memorization abilities. Any other specific requirements that one may have can very much be accommodated as I'm very adaptable.

I taught a TOEFL preparation class for beginner and intermediate students for 2 semesters while in France. Students were of various nationalities. We worked on listening, reading, writing, and grammar through various actvities. Reading was worked on through sample texts followed by multiple choice questions, writing through essay questions and review of how to properly structure an essay in English, listening through conversations or lectures followed by questions, and grammar through fill-in-the-blank exercises just to name a few.

I graduated Cum Laude from Ball State with a GPA of 3.8 in Philosophy and French. Philosophy being a subject that is principally composed of reading and writing a text in order to communicate a logical argument, I learned how to effectively and succinctly communicate concepts through the written word by studying this subject. The importance of an introduction that summarizes main points, a body which describes each of the points, and a conclusion that sums everything up is something that I can very adequately communicate.
