Universidad de Alcalá, Spain (Master's)
I received a BA in Spanish at Oregon State University in 2011. I worked for the Foreign Languages Department there as a tutor and conversation class proctor. I have previously tutored privately for families wanting to prepare their children for entry into bilingual immersion programs in Beaverton.
I spent two years in Madrid, Spain from 2011 to 2013. I taught English there while earning a European Master of Arts in the Teaching and Learning of Spanish as a Foreign Language. I taught Spanish classes to adults while in Madrid as well. Since moving back to Portland, I have been immersed daily in Spanish language and Latin American culture through work at a local immigration law firm. I am highly qualified to teach Spanish, whether it be in areas of grammar, written and oral expression, conversation, or homework help and exam preparation.
For those interested, I can provide a focus in Castilian Spanish (of Spain). However, I have studied and trained for the teaching of Spanish in all varieties, so I'm able to provide lessons for those planning to live, work, or travel in a Spanish-speaking country of North or South America as well. I look forward to hearing your goals and plans for use of the Spanish language, and tailoring my lessons to your needs, whatever they may be! Thank you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, I received a European Master's in the Teaching and Learning of Spanish, and I just arrived home from two years in Madrid. I was immersed there, living with and working with Spaniards daily, and I am now fluent and highly competent in all areas of language learning - writing, reading, speaking and comprehension. I also have experience tutoring individuals, small groups, and teaching elementary classes, adult classes, and a conversation class for university students.
