About Antoinette

I am a graduate student with ten years of nannying experience and a passion for cultivating literacy. My teaching experience includes three college level teaching assistantships, as well as three years teaching basic music theory and guitar to elementary aged children. I am comfortable tutoring children and adults, and will happily accept students with special needs or learning differences. My strongest tutoring skills lie in reading and writing, with attention to grammar and style. In addition, I am highly trained in composing clear, effective arguments, across disciplines. For one semester, I worked as a teaching assistant at a community college, where my central task was to aid students in argumentative essay composition and revision. This experience taught me invaluable skills that are highly useful for organizing high school and college level essays. These skills help the student become a more thoughtful, reflective writer, and a more careful reader, by demanding a focused, clear thesis and tight evidence derived directly from the text or texts about which the essay is composed.

Secondary strengths include basic biology, elementary math, psychology, social studies, disability studies, gender studies, and US history. I am currently taking prerequisite courses to prepare for a teaching certificate in special education, while also finishing my master thesis entitled: Mental Health Rhetoric and the Myth of Reductive Selfhood.

Because I am an experienced child care provider, I know how to make learning fun for children and adults!!

In my spare time, I enjoy biking, hiking, cooking, trying new, local eateries, and reading fiction, nonfiction, memoirs and graphic novels.
