About Ben

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for visiting my page. As you will see, I have a wealth of experience in writing, editing, proofreading, and more. I'm sure that I can help you achieve you highest academic goals.

I have always enjoyed teaching, and particularly teaching English reading and writing. I have a deep love for writing, the English language and language in general, and often volunteer my services in helping peers edit and write essays, cover letters, and general business emails and messages for sense, structure, and content. I am familiar both with working in digital correspondence as well as face to face, and take great joy in working as long as it takes to ensure that a student fully understands a lesson and receives maximum benefit from any instruction given.
Being a theater major, language and intelligibility are an integral part my profession. As part of my acting studies, I have often worked with fellow students and younger actors on their performances, and coached them on monologues to ensure they give the best performance they can and feel as comfortable and confident as possible. I have worked both with college-age peers as well as younger aspiring actors in children's theater productions.

I have a minor in psychology which, in my opinion, is essentially the same as studying how to succeed. Much of psychology is built on how to help an individual rise to their highest potential in the most effective way possible. It is a personal interest of mine to help people achieve their own personal sense of greatness and satisfaction, and when a student succeeds, it is almost as satisfying for me as it is for them.
I was raised on the philosophy that I should leave the world a better place than I found it, and I believe education and personal achievement are two of the cornerstones to creating a happier, more peaceful world. I love hard work, and I love to work hard with others. In short, I love teaching, and would love to make a career spending my time helping people learn how to excel in all aspects of life, academic or otherwise.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

I have a Bachelor's in Theatre Arts from CSU Chico, and have been training in the theatre for over eight years. During my time at Chico, I played multiple lead roles as both a singer and actor, so speaking with crowds and to crowds is my business. I know techniques to calm the mind as well as the basics of elocution and presentation. I have a knack for understanding how to present material cohesively, and would gladly help any aspiring student to become an accomplished presenter and public speaker.

Tennis

I have played tennis since I was about 10 years old and easily logged several thousand hours on the court. I have attended numerous summer camps and intensives and played on my high school team, both singles and doubles. I understand and can explain the mechanics of proper stance, footwork, forehand form, backhand form, service form, net work, and more.

Theatre

I have a bachelor's in Theatre Arts from CSU Chico. This includes both on stage and backstage work, acting, tech work, dramaturgy, directing, design, and more.

Voice (Music)

I have been privately instructed in singing for over 10 years. I have headlined in at least 4 shows with audiences of over 1000 people. I was selected by my university's performing arts department to sing the National Anthem at our 2012 commencement out of over 200 other possible candidates, and performed for an audience of 5000 people. I have read and studied multiple texts on the physiology of singing and vocalization. I have given private lessons to colleagues in preparation for auditions.
