Victor is excellent with my son. He comes in and gets straight to the task at hand. With only two sessions I have seen drastic improvement with his ability to recognize letters and their sounds. I am excited to continue the lessons and look forward to seeing the end of year results. Thank you Victor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
When I tutored in Nashville, Tennessee, for the Adult Literacy program there, I worked with individuals who were dyslexic. During the initial assessment of the needs of these individuals it was clear to me that they were encumbered by the learning disability known as dyslexia. After this was established, we proceeded with their particular needs, and with/without difficulty all the individuals made progress with their reading, and writing.
I have taught different disciplines to many different age groups. I am a father, and taught my daughter to read; she was reading at age two. What I taught with the ages K-6 was reading, writing, spelling, and for the older aged students in this group, I taught study skills that related to reading retention, spelling, how to research words and their meanings, plus how to write sentences with proper syntax.
I have been a professional photographer for 25+ years. I am well-versed in film types, film cameras: f-stops, depth of field, shutter speeds, etc., lenses, digital camera, printing (both color and black and white prints). I printed black and white prints for 12 years before digital took over the photography field.
I have taught classes for over 30 years in one discipline or another, and I have a very good public speaking background. I taught yoga for eighteen years, and tutored English to groups for 6 years in Nashville, Tennessee. I taught and I am certified to teach ESL from classes that I attended and passed the requirements of at the Tennessee Foreign Language Institute in Nashville, Tennessee. I taught ESL classes with as many as 30 students per class. I think that covers the public speaking part. I also gave presentations while attending Tennessee State University while earning my BA in English. While I was a senior at university I taught freshman composition classes.
I have a BA in English, and I have written poetry for 38 years, and essays for 20 years. My poetry has been published in poetry magazines, especially 'Poetalk', the magazine for The Bay Area Poet's Coalition in the San Francisco Bay Area. I graduated from university magna cum laude in English, and I am a member of Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honors Society, so I must have written something/everything well. I would love to pass along to students what I, personally have learned about writing in the last four decades. While attending university, I wrote several essays about particular poets which received A+’s from my professors.
