If you are blocked by a topic, I can diagnose the roadblock and direct you around it. We proceed from what you DO know by adding the new and unfamiliar steps to solve the problem you face. When we're done, you will have solved several similar problems. If I see that your challenge stems from not being clear on earlier material, I'll work you on that first. For example, some high school algebra students are slowed down by not knowing fifth grade multiplication tables. On the other hand, if I see that you know how to perform the processes (long division, square roots, trigonometry identities, for example), but find that "word problems" are sometimes a mystery, I'll coach you in figuring out an approach to the problem and seeing how to apply the processes that you already know.

My background: I was good in math in high school (A in AP Calculus) and university (BS in Math, Stat, and Computer Science). Also good in languages (MA in Linguistics). After my MS in Computer Science, I've worked as a computer programmer, computer scientist, software project leader, and business analyst in the years since. My tasks in business have always included speaking to people who are unsure about the details (such as math, computer science, operating systems, etc.), and giving clear explanations of whatever they need. This means that I know how to explain to a student who doesn't understand, for example, how to factor an algebraic expression. I was a teaching assistant in Computer Science in grad school, I've trained customer personnel in complex software systems, and I've tutored my grandchildren in various math topics from arithmetic through precalculus.

I am a troubleshooter. I can figure out what's in your way, and I can explain it to you. Then I can make up more problems like it, and make sure that you have learned it. My math bac

Microsoft Excel

I have used Excel for 20 years, I'm familiar with both the easy stuff (how to enter formulas in cells, how to format cells, how to select cells and plot a graph, etc.) and more advanced material (pivot tables, macros, Visual Basic macros, Solver, Goal Seek, Scenarios). In addition, I have a long strong background in math AND I am experienced in explaining technical information to others.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra is key to higher mathematics; I used it in high school calculus, college advanced calculus, graduate school in Computer Science, and in all the work I performed as a software developer, leader, manager, and business analyst. But knowing material isn't enough. Finding and fixing misunderstandings is key to all teaching, training, and tutoring, and also to leadership, management, and documentation. I've exercised the skills of analysis and communication in all my work experience. I've tutored ages 10 to 40, and taught people older still. Each person faces different challenges, thinks in different ways, and understands different words. I've analyzed a lot of misunderstandings, and explained a lot of concepts.

Precalculus

Algebra and trigonometry constitute precalculus; I used them in high school calculus, college advanced calculus, and graduate school in Computer Science. I've used algebra in all the work I performed as a software developer, leader, manager, and business analyst. My work in computer graphics depended heavily on trigonometry. But knowing material isn't enough. Finding and fixing misunderstandings is key to all teaching, training, and tutoring, and also to leadership, management, and documentation. Learn not just the "how" but the "why"

Edward was a great tutor and I am so appreciative of his help on a project. My background in math/statistics is fairly non-existent, and while I had a grasp on the use of Excel for some functions, I didn't understand what I was doing or why I was doing it. I walked away from the session feeling confident that I could explain the project to my classmates who were also struggling. Edward is patient, kind, and accessible, and I look forward to working with him again!

VERY HELPFUL in PROVIDING GUIDANCE with MS EXCEL

Edward is very patient and quite eager to help. He is extremely knowledgeable regarding Excel and worked with me, step by step, to get my questions answered and problems solved. Edward was quite flexible in scheduling, and communicated very well via email, every step of the way. I will be sure to request him again in the future, for assistance in one of the many areas that he has expertise, including MS Excel. Highly recommend !

Experienced tutor with good understanding on how functions work and the appropriate formats in formulas

Edward helped me out of my mental block on how to understand what cells, rows and columns to use and why I use certain functions. He helped me with If functions and helped me understand where brackets, commas and parentheses are entered. He was a great help and helped me stop worrying I will never figure this out.
