My strengths are creativity, organization and taking a proactive approach to assessing student's strengths and weaknesses to target their needs. I have over 15 years of experience teaching primary grade students in public and charter school settings. Core Knowledge curriculum was used in both the charter and public school where I last taught.

Much of my training has been focused in the area of literacy with an emphasis on phonics, specifically Saxon Phonics- a comprehensive reading, spelling and writing program. This method helps students who need remedial help by giving them the foundation they need to succeed. Additionally, I have post graduate training in expository writing strategies including paragraphs, reports and vocabulary development.
I am passionate about helping students feel successful and confident in these subjects; reading and writing are essential skills for learning, expanding our lives and eventually going out into the world prepared for the workplace.

I have over 15 years of teaching experience focused on Kindergarten through third grade. Teaching hundreds of students to read and write has been one of my greatest accomplishments.

Engaging and supportive tudor

Merrianna has done an excellent job of bridging the summer months with various reading and comprehension writing lessons for our son, so he does not lose the momentum he has worked hard to achieve during the school year. Merrianna is extremely patient, professional and personable. She was able to quickly assess our son's reading and writing level, build success early on for sessions to be enjoyable and rewarding, while pushing our son to learn and practice at levels more challenging. We have found our interaction with Merrianna to be positive and would highly recommend her to other young readers. We will be very interested in continuing our partnership with her not only for our son, but other learners in our family.

Knowledgeable and very patient.

Merrianna was wonderful with my 8 year old son who has struggled with reading since kindergarten. He loved meeting her and is exciting to see her every week.

Patient and Effective Tutor

Merrianna has helped my seven year old daughter gain confidence in her reading. She was worried she might be behind the other second graders, which is why we hired her. She likes her sessions and is now heading back to school feeling more comfortable. I would reccomend her to anyone.
