I recently graduated from Oregon State University with a master's degree in Marine Resource Management. Before that, I obtained a bachelor's degree in environmental science, with a minor in chemistry, from Western Washington University. I've always been passionate about the environment, particularly the marine ecosystem. I'm fascinated by the way that humans interact with the natural world and how we can manage those interactions to protect and preserve them.

I have experience teaching about sustainability and environmental principles in a course of over 300 students as a graduate teaching assistant. I aim to make my lessons engaging and entertaining, so that students are inspired by the subjects and not simply taught to memorize material. I believe that students learn best by a teaching approach that combines different techniques.

No one wants to sit still for hours being lectured to when, instead, they can get hands-on experience through demonstrations, working in small groups to share information, etc. My favorite part of being a teaching assistant was holding my weekly office hours when students could come individually or in small groups and get help with difficult materials. I enjoy working with students to find an approach that allows them to learn and eventually master something that they struggled with at first.

I aim to help my students become familiar with the required information, but also to prepare them to continue learning on their own. I work to include study skills and tips that are relevant to each lesson and welcome the opportunity to work with students preparing for standardized testing such as the ACT or SAT.

I welcome any and all resources provided by parents or students, but am also eager to develop lesson plans that may present difficult material in new ways that make learning engaging and effective. I am quick to respond to messages, so please feel free to contact me with any questions or tutoring requests!

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Throughout my academic career, I have excelled in math courses up to college-level multivariable calculus. My high school math achievements and SAT/ACT scores allowed me to enter college in an Accelerated Calculus class which required a thorough understanding of algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric principles. I am extremely comfortable explaining and interpreting algebra problems to students and believe this is a subject that I can help students to excel at.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Throughout my academic career, I received straight A's in math courses through college-level multivariable calculus. I received a 5 on my AP Calculus BC exam which allowed me to enter college in an Accelerated Calculus class. These courses required a thorough understanding of algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric principles. I am extremely comfortable explaining and interpreting algebra 2 problems to students and believe that this is an area where I can help student to excel.
Biology,

Biology

My fascination with biology began as an AP Bio student in high school and continued as I took a range of biology classes working toward my B.S. in Environmental Science and my M.S. in Marine Resource Management. I have taken courses focused on organismal biology, cellular and molecular biology, evolutionary biology, biodiversity, and biological oceanography. I have also conducted research at the intersection of biology and chemistry, related to climate change impacts on Arctic larval fish.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

I obtained a chemistry minor at Western Washington University which required me to take courses in general chemistry, organic chemistry, and analytical chemistry. Additionally, my master's thesis involved analysis of total lipids and lipid classes in larval fish. Throughout this process, I worked daily in a lipid laboratory using analytical chemistry procedures (e.g., thin-layer chromatography).

Patient and fun

My daughter was struggling with math, big time!! At elementary school, she was taken out of class to meet with a math specialist. I decided to hire Brittany, she is wonderful and easy to work with, she’s fun and patient, my daughter is starting to love doing math and always looks forward to seeing her. My daughter’s math has improved since we hired her and we are continuing to see her once a week!

Knowledgeable and great tutor!

Brittany was very helpful in reviewing difficult concepts in my college chemistry class. She took her time preparing notes and examples for me which shows how hardworking she is and dedicated to helping people!

Bonnie, 5 lessons with Brittany

Patient and good explainer.

She was very helpful for a teenage boy in need of Algebra II understanding and concepts. We will definitely use her many more times. Not only does she understand math and Algebra but she is knowledgeable in Chemistry as well.
