Wheaton College (English)
University of North Texas (Master's)
I received my bachelor’s degree in English at Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL; as an undergraduate, I worked for two years as a personal academic coach for a student with learning disabilities. During my time in graduate school at the University of North Texas, I worked as a teaching fellow in the College Writing program. During this time, I honed my teaching skills, as well as becoming familiar with the expectations of the core English literature and college writing courses. I also worked for a semester as a tutor in the UNT Writing Lab, where I further developed a passion for working with students one-on-one. As a tutor at the UNT writing lab, I gained experience working with students from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds, as well as leading group workshops.
Since receiving my Masters’ degree in English, I have worked as an adjunct instructor of Composition, using a curriculum of my own design. Through this experience, I have gained confidence at speaking and thinking knowledgeably about the process of learning, as well as employing various pedagogical approaches. I have also worked for several months as a tutor for C2 Education Center. There, I have assisted students with SAT and ACT prep, college essay writing, and high school research and essay writing. I also have provided reading and writing tutoring for all ages, ranging from kindergarten to high school, including special needs students. As an extra part of my work at C2, I also visited local high schools to give workshops on the ACT, SAT, and college essay writing. Given this range of experiences, I feel prepared and excited to tutor a variety of students and subjects.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold an MA in English from the University of North Texas, where I have served as an adjunct instructor of English. I have also tutored reading, writing, and test prep privately, teaching students ranging in age from kindergarten to seniors in high school.
