Hello! I am a naturalist and ecologist with 9 semesters' experience teaching at the college level, and roughly 15 years of experience conducting field surveys and monitoring efforts for wildlife and marine species. I am currently working seasonally as a field ecologist while I decide on a location to either pursue a PhD or find work as an instructor at a community college.

My current personal interests include: bioacoustics, niche theory, philosophy of mind, cognitive psychology, music theory and Zen Buddhism.

Over the course of my five years as a Graduate Assistant & Laboratory Instructor at Northern Michigan University, I have taught a broad diversity of subject matter, including: Cell and Molecular Biology, Ecology, General Biology, General Chemistry, and Anatomy and Physiology.

My studies have always centered on Organismal Biology, from undergraduate coursework focused on physiological mechanisms, to graduate studies concerning landscape-scale and micro-site facets of organismal autecology, through field studies generally concerning the ecology of terrestrial vertebrates.

Outside of academia, I have worked for a variety of institutions and agencies, including U.S. Forest Service, Smithsonian Institute, University of Wyoming, Missouri University (Columbia), Ithaca College, Whitefish Point Bird Observatory, and Tall Timbers Research Station.

Bring me your scholarly quandaries, and we shall explore them from their fundamental bases through questions yet unanswered.

In addition to conceptual and factual matters, I should be able to help with formal report-writing, experimental design, literature review, and study techniques.

Wish you well with your studies!

Botany

While most of my work has centered on vertebrate ecology, I have a personal passion for plant study and identification. I have worked in a broad sweep of North American ecosystems, including Boreal Forest, Sagebrush Steppe, Eastern Deciduous Forest, and Long-Leaf Pine Savanna. My travels have taken me virtually all over the continent, and I have paid close attention to plants at each turn. I have completed a Master's degree focusing on the ecology of woody species on Isle Royale (Lake Superior, Michigan), during which I received high marks in upper-level coursework in Plant Ecology and Boreal Flora. Beyond academia, I have done survey work for rare and invasive species in the Northern Great Lakes Region, and most of my field-based work has required skill with plant identification.
