About Sarah T.

I am a recently graduated master's degree holder. I studied Mesoamerican archaeology using technology to uncover past civilizations in the form of archaeometry. I have also worked with R, Python, and computers to extrapolate information about Zapote trade networks which existed in Southern Mexico in Oaxaca for my thesis. I am currently looking to work teaching students at either a college or junior college level. I love teaching, writing, reading and painting and if not busy doing these things, you can find me walking my dogs or swimming in one of the many rivers in Oregon.

I have a certificate in GIS. I speak Spanish and I have three bachelor's degrees, one in archaeology, one in biological anthropology, and the last in sociology with a history minor.

I have worked in Mexico and my main area of expertise in archaeology is Oaxaca, Mexico, south of Mexico City. This has necessitated my use of Spanish. I also have cousins from Mexico and grew up speaking colloquial Spanish daily.

I am an open minded person who knows how tough school can be and I will help you or point you to a person who can. I look forward to talking to you. I look forward to meeting you! Cheers :-)

Have a wonderful day, Sarah W.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

I have studied anthropology extensively having written my thesis "Pottery, Politics and Trade Routes: Evaluating Late Classic Indepence in Jalieza, Oaxaca". I have also spoke at the annual American archaeology convention.

Archaeology

I have dug in archaeological digs at three different spots here in Oregon, worked in Labs for Dr. Dennis Jenkins and Dr. White at U of O cleaning and cataloging artifacts. I also have a GIS certificate and know ArcGIS well.

English

In gaining my Masters in Applied Anthropology, I was required to learn correct grammar, sentence structure, as well as general scientific writing skills. Additionally, I am a published fiction writer. These different experiences have prepared me to teach writing at a college level. Lastly, I have taught writing at a college level for two years during my time in graduate school. Writing is a fundamental skill everyone needs and I can help you learn and polish your skills in this area. Thank you, Sarah Walker

Psychology

I have a masters in Applied anthropology, a bachelors in history and psychology as well as a bachelors in archaeology and biological anthropology. I love psychology and can help people with it up into the highest undergraduate courses.

Reading

As a researcher and a teacher, reading is an incredibly important skill for me and because I have taught at a college level for years, I have learned to teach my students better reading comprehension as well as better writing skills. From adult education to teaching undergraduates, I have experience teaching students to prefect their reading and writing abilities through my classes by both requiring paper writing at a college level as well as providing the tools necessary to do this.

Sociology

I obtained a bachelors degree in sociology at U of Oregon and did a study on why Socialist societies tend to become totalitarian.

Spanish

I have three years college level experience in Spanish, worked in Mexico and grew up in a bilingual household.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor.

Sarah was prepared for our lesson with notes on my subject prior to logging on. I feel much more prepared for my exam after only one lesson. She also went above and beyond by finding an answer to a question I had even after our session was over and sent the answer to me.
