Columbia College (Computer Info System)
Hi, I’m Don. I have a passion for teaching people just about anything about computers. I was first exposed to computers in the Army many years ago and have been learning (and teaching others) about them ever since. I earned an Associates of Science degree in Computer Sciences (General Studies) with Central Texas College in 1992 and then went on to earn a Bachelors of Science (Computer Information Systems) with Columbia College in 2003. Recently, I completed a Certificate of Completion (CIS – Desktop) with Central Oregon Community College in June of 2011. As you can see, I really love to learn (and teach about) computers.
My teaching skills were first developed in the military with the principal of “go at the pace of the slowest learner and ensure they KNOW the materials before going on to the next step.” I have used this approach continually and have kept this concept foremost in all of my teaching. This was proven with my assignment as Drivers Training Instructor in Germany and I attained a 98.2% first time passing rate of my students. As you might guess, I don’t move on to the next part of the teaching until both I and the student are confident in their knowledge of the subject.
Besides teaching the basics of computers to many soldiers, I have taught many other subjects such as military training, personal financial management, English, math, and so much more. With the English classes, I had the grade point average of my students raised from an average of 8.4 to 12.1 when they tested for their G.E.D. Additionally, I have taught a variety of topics for Sabbath classes in different churches, which I have attend over the years. Yes, teaching is a passion to me, and I love to see people learn and enrich their lives from it.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I can teach you almost anything you want to know about computers. Whether it's the basics or setting up a network, I'm your man. I know many different types and their programs. However, I am limited with the MACs usage and programs.
I am Microsoft Certified in MS Excel. I have used the MS Excel program since it first came with the Microsoft Office Suite program. I have used it extensively in setting up my own budgets, phone listings, address rosters, and a teaching tool for showing others how to manage their money on a monthly basis.
Whether you are want to learn the basics or advanced workings of Excel, I can teach you on all of it.
I have used MS Outlook program since its inception. Used it extensively in schedules, meetings, and filtering of emails for various state agencies I have worked for in a temporary capacity. For most companies, this is a required skill you must have to be hired. If not, it's a plus in your chances to beat out other applicants.
Additionally, I continually used Outlook in my personal life. It is the way I manage my emails, appointments, interviews, and important events in my life.
No matter whether you are want to learn the basics or advanced workings of Outlook, I can teach you on all of it.
I am Microsoft Certified in MS Word. I have used the MS Word program since it first came with the Microsoft Office Suite program. I have used it extensively in writing up my resumes, cover letters, school term papers, DAV meeting minutes, and so much more.
I have also used MS Word in all the temporary jobs I did for the state over the past few years. I know that you may need these skills for a future job you may apply to and the more you know the better your chances of being hired.
No matter whether you are want to learn the basics or advanced workings of Word, I can teach you on all of it.
