I’m Jake! While yes, I do have little formal tutoring experience, I believe that I know what a student needs to hear for a topic to “click” for them. I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering while getting a minor in Applied Mathematics, as well as competing on the Men’s Soccer Team at Oregon Tech. While in high school, I took 8 AP classes and won the Math Department’s Student of the Year Award my senior year out of all 600 eligible seniors. I also was awarded AP Physics Student of the Year and granted the AP Scholar with Distinction Award for having above a 3.5 average for all the AP tests I took. Now in college, I have won a public speaking competition, have multiple president’s list awards, have an academic all-conference award, and a GPA of 3.86.
I specialize in tutoring most Maths, specifically Algebra, Calculus, and Physics. All students learn things in different ways. When it comes to math, I’ve learned from helping out classmates in high school and in college that you can’t force a student to learn things one way. I find it very important to teach students how to solve problems in different ways, and then let them decide which method they will choose to use in the future.
For me, the moment you can see it “click” in a student’s head is what I love about tutoring. That moment is something I’ve experienced as a student myself and helped achieve in fellow classmates. Once it clicks in your head, I think you gain a broader understanding of the subject, and more importantly, how to apply it.
I am currently getting an Applied Mathematics minor and have helped countless classmates in all levels of math. I have two younger siblings that need help all the time in calculus and geometry, so I know how to work with younger kids and high schoolers to improve mathematical understanding.
I was awarded AP Physics student of the year in high school and I have 3 terms of physics classes taken in college. I know the material and I have experience teaching classmates how to understand an applied maths course
