About Tyler

Three years ago I started working at a sort of tutoring center called Kumon in Hawaii. I taught kids ranging from the age 5 up to 18. There I taught both reading and math, with a specialty in teaching the advanced math students subjects such as algebra, trig, and calculus. I quit my job to move to Oregon and attend college at Oregon Institute of Technology where I am working on my Bachelors in Software Engineering.

Aside from math I also have a passion for computer programming. I have taken a total of 5 programming classes in High School including an AP Comp Sci course and directed studies classes where I focused on personal programming projects. After taking my AP Computer Science class I took the AP test which I scored a 5 on.

I find teaching very enjoyable, I get joy out of teaching and talking about subjects I enjoy to others.

I spent three years teaching kids of 4 - 18 years all aspects of math up to calculus. At the tutoring center I taught kids 1 on 1, with my strongest subjects being algebra, trig, and calculus.

I have had an interest in programming since my 2nd year of high school, taking 1-2 programming courses in high school for the last three years of high school. I have taken 3 directed studies classes where I worked on self directed programming projects that were written in the languages python, C#, and C++. I am now attending Oregon Institute of Technology to get a degree in software engineering (programming).

I have a lot of experience in 1 on 1 tutoring and am very comfortable with the subjects math and computer science. I enjoy teaching and seeing students progressing. I think having the opportunity to show others more about the subjects I am interested in is great. If you have any questions about anything just ask!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I taught algebra at a tutoring center for 3 years to middle and high schoolers. I skipped algebra I in high school by testing out of it before my freshman year.

Algebra 2

I have taught Algebra 2 at a tutoring center for 3 years to kids in middle and high school. In my Sophomore year I took alg 2 and felt extremely comfortable with it. Out of the math subjects algebra I and II are my most favorite. I tested out of my college algebra class to skip it, and got an A when taking alg II in high school.

C#

In high school among my programming courses was a course called directed studies. In directed studies I was allowed to do my own self directed programming projects. The main language I used in my 3 directed studies classes was C#. I am most comfortable with this language and have created many applications in C#.

Computer Programming

I have taken AP Computer science, on the AP test I scored a 4/5. For 3 of my 4 years in high school I have taken 1-2 programming classes. I have had an interest in programming for a while now and am now majoring in software engineering at Oregon Institute of Technology.

Computer Science

I completed the AP computer science score in high school, getting an A for the year and scoring a 4/5 on the AP exam which tests the students knowledge of everything they learned in the college level course. A 4 is well over enough to get college credit for computer programming classes. I am now in college and majoring in Software Engineering which is my college's computer science course. I have very good understanding of computer programming and have worked on many programs in languages such as Java, Python, C++, and C#. In high school I took 3 directed studies programs where I worked on self directed programming projects for 2 hours a day. On the physical side of computers I also have a good understanding of how binary, octal, and hex counting systems work. I understand binary logic and have worked with an arduino which gave me understanding of how to work with embedded systems. I took an A+ certification class which tuahgt me about computer components and how they operate, this class was run by cisco to train people in the tech field. Finally, in my current C++ college class and my digital logic class I am scoring an A.

Prealgebra

I taught pre algebra at a tutoring center for 3 years to kids in elementary school and in middle school. I took a pre algebra class in middle school and learned how to solve for x! :)
