Hi, I am Pearson! My bachelor's degree is in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and I hold a PhD in Biophysics from Ohio State University. Initially, I wanted to go to pharmacy school, but after spending some time in my chemistry classes, I realized that I enjoyed science more than I initially thought I would. So, I instead decided to pursue a PhD in Biophysics. Throughout my PhD I gained knowledge in a very wide range of subjects, both through hands-on experience through conducting experiments as well as exposure to the mathematics and theory required to understand what I was even looking at.
In addition to my technical knowledge, I have many years of experience with tutoring. Throughout my undergraduate degree, I tutored general Chemistry and Biology, as well as Intro to Physics and several algebra classes. In graduate school, I again taught chemistry and physics, as well as biochemistry. I have had experience in one-on-one sessions, small groups of 3-4, small classes of 20ish people, and even up to lecturing to hundreds in large lecture rooms.
Math frightens a lot of people, and I used to be one of them. I struggled with math; it was my weakest subject in high school. I initially only had to take Calculus I for my pre-pharmacy track and barely made it through. However, when I realized that I wanted to get my PhD in Biophysics, I was reticent due to the amount of math I needed to learn. I ended up taking Calculus II, III, and Differential Equations and I fell in love with the simple elegance of mathematics. Due to my journey with mathematics, I feel like I am qualified to help students tackle mathematics classes due to my prior experience and current mastery of the subject.
Like I mentioned above, I received my PhD in biophysics from Ohio State University. Biophysics is a very diverse subject and takes from many different subjects. As such, I have expertise in a wide variety of disciplines, ranging from cellular and molecular biology all the way to quantum physics. I believe that I would be a strong tu
