University of Idaho (Elementary Education)
I earned my BS in Elementary Education with minors in Social Science and Child Development. I also have my Montessori Education Certification for ages 3 - 6. I am a past owner of a successful Montessori-based Learning Center.
I am currently working as an independent consultant for Preschool/Early Learning businesses, but my real passion is for teaching and watching children bloom and blossom while they learn. I would love to supplement my consulting jobs with tutoring children who need the extra assistance building their foundation in early learning skills & concepts, phonics, language, reading, math, and art.
When I sold my Learning Center, I retained a substantial quantity of hands-on learning materials that I would love to share with my clientele in an effort to give each and every child a great start, or continuation, in their future education. I firmly believe that what the eye sees and the hand feels, the mind is more apt to remember.
My primary goals of using this hands-on, individualized approach to education are to develop positive attitudes towards school; promote self-confidence & self-help skills; help develop habits of concentration, initiative and persistence; provide opportunities in which manners & self-discipline are encouraged; foster curiosity, inner security and sense of order; introduce the child to the joy of learning; and build a strong foundation for future academic growth.
As a teacher, I believe that each child is an individual and must be allowed to develop at his/her own pace. I also believe that children learn best through active participation with their environment and that the teachers' job is to provide a variety of opportunities and experiences to promote growth in all areas by using different materials that cater to all learning styles. Honoring each child's learning style provides an opportunity where success and failure can be experienced in a positive and accepting manner.
I am available to tutor in person or through Skype or other telecommute options. I look forward to meeting you and your young child and having the opportunity to assist in paving the road towards academic success! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
