Hello,
My name is Brian and I look forward to working with you. I have been an educator for five years now and I have found that working in education has made me a whole person. Teaching is my passion and I relish any opportunity to work one on one or in small groups with students.
My experience in education is varied. I have been a teaching assistant for the National Model UN; I have substitute taught all grade levels and subjects, K-12; I've worked as a CIT coordinator at a summer camp; I've directed summer college programs; I have experience in special education; and I spent this past year teaching ESL in South Korea. Recently I moved to Portland to pursue my masters degree in educational policy and leadership at PSU.
The approach I take towards education is not that of the master lording over his lessers. The teacher and student are equal partners in a relationship and each should treat each other with the inherent respect and dignity that all humans deserve. My role is not to give you information that you repeat back to me, my role is to facilitate your ability to learn. I am here to help you learn how to learn. In order to do this we need to work collaboratively to bring out the knowledge and abilities that you already have, and hopefully in the process you will do the same for me. To learn is to teach.
Be well.
