About Natalia

Hi all! My name is Natalia and I have completed my master's in English at Rutgers University in New Jersey. I am maintaining a 3.8 GPA. My undergrad work was completed at Arizona State University where I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I have remained tied to my passion of literature ever since I was little. I specialize in discussing, illuminating and analyzing classic works of literature as well as verbalizing and writing my impressions and hypotheses. The best way to envision this is to imagine a lawyer collecting evidence and then presenting a convincing, moving and compelling case.

I have some experience teaching grammar to ESL students in my home state of Arizona.

I am certified in Algebra I & II as well as World and American History.

Additionally, I have taken as high as 300 level French and completed a course in intermediate French in the Southern French town of Montpellier so French is an option for those who need it.

I look forward to meeting many of you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

Analyzed student writing samples and collaborated with peers and managing graders to reach a grade consensus for the educational resource company Pearson in Mesa, AZ (2006). Aided students with class work exercises including clarifying grammatical rules and conventions as well as explaining problem areas to students finding difficulty in the classroom as a teacher's assistant for Lutheran Social Ministries off and on the past ten years. Completed useful courses: Writing for the Professions (Fall 2003), Computer Literacy (Spring 2002).

Film

I wrote, shot, and edited a student film as an undergraduate student at Arizona State University, not in my native Romanian or even English but in German. Unfortunately, when I graduated in 2005, a film major was not offered. However, I took as many film courses as I could including two with the renowned Ron Newcomer who is a published author and lecturer on all eras of film from silent to contemporary. I earned an A+ in his classes.

I also was exposed to the other end of film teaching style in Gus Edwards' class, who is the other heavyweight in ASU's prestigious program. My knowledge of film history helps me win contests like the last Quizzo I won at the Victor Bar across from New Jersey's southern Rutgers campus where I am pursuing an MA degree. My main area of interest is film noir though I savor most fare from Hollywood's Golden Age. My favorite directors are Howard Hawks, Fritz Lang and Raoul Walsh.
