I am a certified teacher in California and Oregon and taught for eight years in a private school in California. My gift is connecting with children of all ages and teaching subjects out of the box. Helping students in a variety of ways to understand concepts in writing, reading, and math is always my goal. It is always fun to use object lessons, games, and memory tools to help each child succeed. My enthusiasm and positive feedback motivates children to want to learn more.
Currently, I am teaching adults how to read at the library, giving tours about Oregon Trail history at Phillip Foster Farm, helping autistic children with physical needs at Therapy Works, and providing specialty classes for homeschool students. If you want a fun-loving teacher with experience, please let me help you.
Letting students use their hands to practice a math theory builds confidence in every student. Students understand the concept before they try it on paper. I love teaching fractions with pancakes and measurement in the sandbox. Older students love that I connect math to everyday situations, and they develop a purpose in the lesson. Math drills are always a game. Math should be fun with lots of laughs. Students will want to learn more. I have tutored high school students algebra with concise steps, so it is easier for them to understand.
Do you hate school? Are you frustrated? Do you want to excel in a subject? Are your parents frustrated? I can help you. We will have lots of fun, but we will learn at the same time. You will find out that reading, writing, and math are really fun when you have developed the tools of learning. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a current teaching clear credential from California which is the highest credential. Also, I have an initial credential from Oregon. I taught in a private classroom for 8 years. I am now a substitute teacher in the Gresham/Barlow district. I did not get a permanent job, so thought I would tutor.
I am a credentialed elementary teacher, and have helped many students build confidence and discover organizational skills to help the child succeed. I can help in all subjects because of my experience. I know that each child can memorize in their own way, and I can help discover his or her way with flash cards or other memory tools
