Experienced editor and writing coach: For over 20 years I have worked as an editor and writing coach specialized in academic and analytical writing. I have 3 years university teaching experience, including extensive experience working with undergraduates developing and writing research papers. My doctoral-level training was in American and European history and literature (MA/MPhil degrees earned), and my scholarly writing has appeared in essay collections published by Rutgers University Press and Princeton UP. I have worked for a major public university as a freshman-year applications reader. I am happy to work with students at the college level or higher, offering guidance on research papers and other projects, including creative nonfiction and graduate or law school application essays. I tutor students preparing for the Analytical Writing section of the GRE. I also work as a developmental editor for academic and other serious nonfiction manuscripts intended for journal, university, or trade press publication. (Please note: I no longer accept clients who are writing freshman-year college application essays, although I do continue to work with transfer applicants.)

Many of my editing clients are professors at R1 universities preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journal or university press publication. I’ve also worked with a range of corporate and nonprofit clients, teaching writers how to perfect their arguments and develop an individual or corporate voice. I’ve edited teaching materials used to train Big Law attorneys to write clearer, cleaner, and more persuasive briefs, and I’ve worked extensively with students and professionals who write in English as a second language.

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

Julia was excellent! The reason for this is she patiently listened, then asked questions to understand my assignment. Julia then offered an example of a model/guideline of a proposal to follow. How to frame questions, and what kind of research/data to support my problem question. I appreciate Julia's guidance and will be working with her again. I felt Julia was a great Coach!
