Cal State Northridge - Teach Credential (English)
University of New Mexico at Albuquerque (Graduate Coursework)
University of Maryland overseas campus (Enrolled)
I hold a BA in English with a minor in History. I also have many years of continuing education, and speak bits and pieces of several languages. My teaching career took me to the Middle East, Afghanistan, Europe, with small American schools. Then, I worked in Sales, TV briefly, and moved into recruiting in the Engineering and Construction fields, with candidates and clients worldwide. I am a published author, have written scripts for TV commercials and PSAs. During my teaching career, I had students with a variety of special needs, foreign speakers, as well as those whose basic skills needed assistance. Having made my living for 15 years online using a computer, I am fairly competent to keep up with digital media.
My unique life path has taught me to listen very closely and understand those whose English is not "standard American." I have also acted in full length dramas, been interviewed on air, and have done training films. Again, as a teacher, I directed plays, supervised the publication of yearbooks, and literary magazines for my students. I can assist you to learn to write more clearly, speak with confidence, and feel comfortable in your use of the English language. I don't just red-line your work and tell you what is wrong, but help you determine what needs more work, editing, and finalizing the work.
I am available most days, and would be happy to discuss your situation, what you feel is necessary to improve your work, and determine if we are a good match for that task. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Social Studies minor, with the added experience of first hand living and traveling across half the world.
As an English teacher, I not only spoke, but taught speech to high school students. My best tip is to picture the audience wearing only their underwear. I worked in sales, presenting product demonstrations to CEO's of potential partner companies, trained other representatives on products, and their own presentations for many years. I was a prize winning Toastmaster for two years, and have made my living by cold calling clients for over 10 years.
