About Adrienne

Education is liberation. Successful education results in opportunities, choices, and freedom. My philosophy of tutoring is to act as a guide, fostering independence and encouraging positive study habits that can be used in all areas of education. I listen to the unique needs of each student and develop a learning plan to meet students where they are.

Before moving to the Medford area, I worked for six years as an English tutor at Portland Community College. I helped students with writing, reading, vocabulary, and speaking. I am TESOL/TEFL certified and very experienced at teaching English to ESL/ESOL students. I graduated summa cum laude (highest honors) with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and summa cum laude with a Master's degree in Psychology and Multicultural Education. I also spent two years as a teacher's assistant for two Women's Studies courses at PSU, so I can also tutor in the fields of Sociology or Social Work.

I believe in every student's ability to succeed in school! I look forward to meeting you and being a part of your educational success!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I scored a 36 on the English section of the ACT. I currently work at Portland Community College as an English tutor. I tutor this subject through practicing sample questions, building relevant vocabulary, and reviewing grammar rules.

ESL/ESOL

I am TESOL/TEFL certified. I have completed over 150 hours of coursework related to teaching English as a non-native language. I also work as an ESOL and English tutor at Portland Community College.

Psychology

I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. My major GPA was 4.0. I have received an 'A' grade in a wide variety of courses, and I feel confident tutoring for any Psychology course. I tutor this subject through discussing major concepts and practicing vocabulary. I also can help with APA style research papers.

Public Speaking

I received an 'A' when I took Public Speaking in college. I currently tutor at a local community college, and I regularly help students with material from Public Speaking courses and practice speeches. My philosophy of tutoring Public Speaking includes two major aspects: structuring and organizing the speech for maximum impact and practicing calm and engaging delivery.

Sociology

Throughout my undergraduate career, I have received A's in courses in Sociology, Women's Studies, and Psychology. I am a teacher's assistant for two upper division Women's Studies Courses. I am currently attending graduate school for Social Work. I also have strong skills in Statistics and Research Methods, and am able to apply this background to the field of Sociology.

Amazing tutor

I am retaking the ACT so that I can get better scholarships. Adrienne helped me study for the English part. I've been really nervous about it since I did so badly on it the first time. Adrienne really believed in me and helped me feel like I could succeed. We mostly worked on reviewing grammar and punctuation rules, but she also helped me by giving me hints for finishing the section in time to rev
