About Andrew

To keep it simple and to the point...

I meet the expectations of those I tutor, because it is all about them. I absolutely love tutoring people, and I have done this for about 4 years now. I cover the following subjects:

+ Pre-College Mathematics (Algebra, Trigonometry, etc)
+ College Algebra
+ Calculus 1, 2, and 3
+ Differential Equations
+ Linear Algebra

Any class above this I will gladly entertain a conversation about!

My qualifications:

I hold a Bachelor's degree from Missouri S&T in Applied Mathematics, and I graduated with about a 3.4 GPA. My background includes deep familiarity with Aerospace engineering as well. I obtained a major GPA of about 3.7, and my advanced coursework is available upon request.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have an extensive background in test preparation. Happy to help anyone who is needing specialized help. I cover both how to get exact solutions, and how to quickly eliminate irrelevant answers for time-sensitive material to give the highest likelihood for optimal points received.

Algebra 1

In this field, as well as Algebra 2, I take time to go as in depth as necessary, and cover many examples of different problems to ensure this fundamental material is well-grasped. This is a basic building-block course for any later mathematics courses, so I make sure my students are well-versed.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 continues to be an essential building block, especially if advanced coursework will be pursued. It is typically a requirement for most College Algebra classes, or Trigonometry classes. I strive to make sure the fundamentals are well understood, and then, everything else will fall in place.

Calculus

Calculus for some, is simply mandatory, and for others, just a stepping stone. Regardless of background, I do my best to instill the fundamentals of the course, as they are the easiest way to master the material. This is a great course for anyone to take, as a brief exposure to Calculus is good for anyone to have.

Career Development

I worked as a Student Affairs Professional in a partnership between Student Life and Career and Employer Relations for three years. I have gained many skills to be able to guide students through the decision making process for their careers. I have provided guidance to dozens of students, and would love to keep doing so!

College Counseling

I worked in Admissions in Missouri at Missouri University of Science and Technology, and am currently an Admissions Counselor for Southern Oregon University. I served as a reviewer for scholarship applications as well. I know I would be an excellent resource in this area.

Differential Equations

I have taken several courses in differential equations at the MS&T campus, and hold a bachelor's in Applied Math. This is one of my most commonly tutored classes, and I make sure to be thorough on all material. Feel free to contact for the material I cover, as I typically follow a normal class curriculum.

Geometry

Geometry is considered a fundamental class throughout the states, and is typically the 2nd or 3rd math course taken in high school, or the first for students who need a refresher in college, but either way the skills learned here a fundamentally essential for future math courses.

Linear Algebra

I have taken this course at the MS&T Campus, and have tutored several individuals in this course. I typically try to mix applied theory and general theory to give a comprehensive understanding, as this material can easily get confusing.

Prealgebra

This course, typically taken as one of the first real math courses for a student, is crucial to the understanding of future coursework, which will come. This is the course in which other courses' success is hinged on, thus I take the time to ensure the material is well absorbed.

Precalculus

This course is typically taken either as a pre-requisite or a mandatory mathematics course for collegiate work. Whatever the reason may be, this course does help to grant understanding of some fundamental mathematics material, thus I try to take the time to treat it as such.

Public Speaking

I've been a traveling speaker at conferences, college campuses, and community organizations. I am associated with a production company that represents speakers, and speak on a variety of topics, which include, but are not limited to: suicide prevention, stress management, alcohol awareness, sexual assault prevention, effective communication , recruitment strategies, and organizational development.

SAT Math

I have an extensive background in test preparation. Happy to help anyone who is needing specialized help. I cover both how to get exact solutions, and how to quickly eliminate irrelevant answers for time-sensitive material to give the highest likelihood for optimal points received.

Study Skills

I hold a Bachelor's degree from Missouri S&T in Applied Mathematics. Study skills have been, are, and will continue to be one of the most transferable skills throughout the education process, and even into the professional world. However, everyone learns differently, whether it be auditory, visual, kinetic, or through some sort of mnemonic device, I strive to ensure that I find the most effective way to teach my students. I am currently an Admissions Counselor for Southern Oregon University.

Track & Field

I specifically aim to coach Shot-put and Discus athletes. I competed for 6 years in Missouri, and aided in coaching freshman and sophomores as a senior captain. I had an excellent coach, and kept many of his training strategies, including those used to train the 2006 MO state champion.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry, like a combination of Algebra 2 and Geometry, serves as the key course prior to advancing to collegiate level mathematics, so the material covered is incredibly crucial to the future success of the individual. I definitely like to take my time, and work diligently through this material, trying to guarantee understanding.
