My strength in life is possessing a natural ability to be effective with children. I have been a successful elementary teacher for 24 years. My students enjoy coming to school where I make sure they feel safe and cared for. My goal has always been to protect and enhance my student's self-esteem while promoting a love for learning. Teaching the value of integrity and empathy is also an important part of the way I run my classroom. I offer my students a consistent mood and model a happy and patient adult. I enjoy working with children, it's my passion and my life's work. I am enthusiastic about learning and like to stimulate the interest of my students by sharing fascinating facts and the wonders of learning about the world we live in.
In applying for a tutoring position, I seek to help elementary students (perhaps middle school) with any subject they are struggling with or have little interest in, which often results in not performing well. I am very experienced in teaching beginning reading, incorporating a knowledge of phonics to improve decoding skills, with emphasis on improving vocabulary and comprehension. Teaching math, language arts, spelling and handwriting skills are all subjects I would appreciate helping your child make improvements while enjoying the process. If you choose to hire me, I would like to meet with your child, and together; teacher, parent and student make the decision as to whether we feel confident I am a good fit for effectively tutoring your child. It's important that this is a positive experience for your child and we will not know unless we form a partnership and give it a try with honest communication a priority between us. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
